Support Homes for Homes this Homelessness Week
Homelessness Week, held from 4-10 August 2025, is an annual event to build community support and government commitment to end homelessness. The theme for Homelessness Week 2025 is ‘Homelessness Action Now’, and there’s never been a more important time to act towards ending homelessness.
Homelessness is one of the biggest social issues we face in Australia, with more than 122,000 Australians experience homelessness. This not only includes people sleeping rough, but also people in severely crowded dwellings, couch surfing, or living in supported and temporary accommodation. The causes of homelessness are complex but often include family and domestic violence, lack of social and affordable housing, finances and mental health challenges.
As this number is predicted to continue growing, so does the need for long-term solutions to address this complex and challenging issue. We can’t let this go on. And at Homes for Homes, we won’t.
Get Involved
Homes for Homes, created by The Big Issue, is a proven community-led solution that raises funds for social and affordable housing through property donations. Owners and renters register their property with Homes for Homes, promising to donate 0.1% of their property’s sale price or rent. These funds are then granted to community housing providers in the state or territory of the donation to increase the supply of social and affordable housing.
It is a simple, proven model for a complex problem that makes a substantial impact. The more registrations, the more funding is available to grant to community and housing providers who can make safe, secure housing for people on the margins.
