Homes for Homes grants $300,000 to SA and ACT social housing projects

Homes for Homes has recently granted $300,000 to support social and affordable housing projects in South Australia and the Australian Capital Territory as part of the seventh grant round of Homes for Homes funding.

This grant round is incredibly exciting for Homes for Homes as it marks the first time we have granted funds in South Australia, and takes total funds granted in the ACT to more than $1 million.

Congratulations to Community Equity Housing South Australia and Marymead CatholicCare Canberra & Goulburn who have received $100,000 and $200,000 respectively.

Collaborating with their member organisation Copper Triangle, Community Equity Housing South Australia will use the funding to create five two-bedroom units with communal gardens and common areas for low-income elderly singles and couples to age in place.

Marymead CatholicCare Canberra & Goulburn will use their funding to create Pete’s Place, a multi-functional transitional housing for people experiencing homelessness, children from foster care breakdowns, children transitioning out of foster care and disability respite.

Grant recipients were awarded their funding at events in Adelaide and Canberra, where guests had the opportunity to learn more about the funded projects and the Homes for Homes mission.

Homes for Homes’ Chief Executive Officer, Steven Persson said the grant round represents another powerful step towards ending homelessness across Australia.

“Homes for Homes is a whole-of-community approach to one of the most critical social issues we face as a country. We’re excited to extend our funding into South Australia for the first time and support the creation of a new social and affordable housing project, as well as continue our vital work in the ACT and reach the fantastic milestone of $1.1m funds granted in the ACT.

“We look forward to continuing our work of providing safe, secure housing for all, and hope that more communities across Australia can get behind us and join in creating a nation without homelessness.”

Funding rounds such as these would not be possible without the support of the Homes for Homes community, including property donors, PEXA and many others who help us in our mission. Homes for Homes now has granted more than $2m to 22 social and affordable housing projects across Vic, NT, Qld, NSW, WA, SA and the ACT, providing housing for over 300 people.
